Autism Support Dogs

From 2009 to 2013, and with your generous support, we raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Children’s Wish Foundation, and sent seven children and their families on vacations of their dreams. While making their children’s dreams come true, we also kept alive our Andrew’s love of children. This year we are shifting our focus to honour both Andrew’s loves, the love of children, as well as animals. While sending children and families for their dream vacations was very satisfying to all of us, we wanted to see your donations reach further – much further.

Joint News Release
October 2013

KITZ4kids is pleased to partner with Autism Support Dogs in honouring Andrew and his compassion for children and animals.

Autism Support Dogs (ASD) is dedicated to making a direct and profound difference in the lives of children with moderate to severe autism and their families through the provision of professionally trained and certified support dogs. An autism support dog provides tangible and immediate benefit; making a significant difference in the safety, independence, sense of well being and belonging for children with autism and their families. Through ASD, day-to-day activities that had once seemed out of the realm of possibility are now achievable, enabling a child with autism to reach his or her greatest potential.

To train one of these very special dogs takes up to 2 years and costs the charity upwards of $35,000. Autism Support Dogs are provided free of charge to children & their families. While the dog is with the child, ASD continues to monitor and provide free of charge follow-up care and training. This support continues until the dog is retired. With your generous help, we may be able to shorten the current three years-long wait, and get one of these very special dogs to a child in need a bit sooner.
